bay area's monte francis is live at pier 80 in san francisco with the very latest. monte? >> reporter: well, janelle, what is left of the boat is here in a warehouse at pier 80. and crews spent much of the day bringing back pieces of the boat here. also, as you said, the america's cup organization released some new video footage of those dramatic moments on the bay. take a look. team usa encountered a shift in the wind and a strong current on the bay yesterday, which caused the boat to capsize. now, the new footage shows the scene as support crews rushed to the boat and to the aid of the 14 members of the crew, none of whom were hurt. it also shows some of the long recovery mission as crews fought with strong currents that carried the boat out to the golden gate bridge. the $8 million 72-foot catamaran is in pretty bad shape. the wing, or the mast of the boat was destroyed. we're being told it will take months to replace. that is not the only setback for team usa. >> it was our eighth day sailing this boat. now we're not going to be able to sail this boat for quite some time. we're go

a fantasy league to chart their sexual experiences. nbc bay area's monte francis is in piedmont tonight, and i'm sure parents are not too pleased to learn about this, monte. >> reporter: well, diane, that's right. parents received this letter from the principal on friday telling them about the existence of what students are calling a fantasy slut league. now, this is new to parents, but apparently this has been an open secret among students here for years. the principal says the fantasy league has been in existence for five to six years and it was discovered during a recent freshman assembly on date rain prevention. now, according to the school, some of the school's varsity athletes set up the league in which female students are drafted, often unbeknownst to them, and that male students earn points for engaging in sexual activities with those female students. now, one piedmont student told us that the league was started as a private group on facebook, which is why parents were kept in the dark for so long. >> from what i've been told, two guys have a team of two girls and when girls lik

. this is the city that only had two homicides in all of last year. 36-year-old lamont ellis was gunned down early sunday morning about 2 a.m. shot multiple times according to police found in mullinex alley. his friends gathered for a vigil tonight at the very spot where he was killed. they believe he was the victim of an attempted robbery, but police say they have not yet determined a motive. meanwhile gunfire rang out around 5:30 this evening in the 300 block of west south street, shots that could be heard from police headquarters. area residents say somebody started firing a weapon after a big street fight involving 15 or 20 people. police say one person was stabbed and is in serious condition. no word on whether the two incidents are connected. police are waiting for autopsy results on lamont ellis. >> we believe he was downtown at some of our downtown establishments. we think he left downtown, was leaving with a group of people or walking with a group of people when he was walking through the alley to his transport to leave for the evening. >> i just hope that they catch this person really so

jumping more than 15 cents a gallon overnight. monte francis is live in cupertino right now. at one station i'm looking at this. one station says it's over $5 0 $5.30, is this right, my man? >> reporter: here here at a 76 station where they're selling regular unleaded for $5.39. we also have the new aaa report which shows bay area gas prices are up across the board. prices spiked overnight. in san francisco the price is up by 16 cents from $4.43 to $4.59. in oakland it was $4.34 yesterday. this morning, $4.52. in san jose the average was $4.37 and it's now up to $4.53. analysts are attributing the increase to some mishaps at refineries and problems with an pipeline. the chevron refinery in richmond is also cited as a contributing factor. all of this is hitting bay area drivers very hard and taking many of them by surprise. >> it's actually never knew that the prices were this high. i haven't got gas in about a week or so. so i was pretty shocked. that's pretty crazy. >> reporter: in southern california the gas shortage forced some costco gas stations and a few others to shut down.
